A summer cold can linger longer than expected. Learn common causes, home care steps, and when walk-in urgent care can help.
Cold symptoms can feel especially frustrating during warm weather, but respiratory viruses, allergies, sinus irritation, and air conditioning can all contribute to congestion, cough, sore throat, and fatigue in the summer.
Why Symptoms May Linger
- Postnasal drip from allergies or sinus irritation
- A cough that continues after a viral infection
- Dehydration or dry indoor air
- Exposure to smoke, dust, or strong odors
- A secondary infection that needs medical evaluation
What You Can Do at Home
- Drink plenty of fluids
- Rest when symptoms are active
- Use saline spray for nasal congestion
- Avoid smoking and secondhand smoke
- Consider a humidifier if indoor air is dry
