Most childhood fevers are caused by common infections, but certain symptoms call for same-day medical evaluation. Learn what to watch for.
A fever is one way the body responds to an infection. A child's age, behavior, hydration, and other symptoms are important when deciding whether medical care is needed.
Call a Healthcare Provider Promptly If
- A baby under three months has a temperature of 100.4 F or higher
- The fever is persistent or keeps returning
- Your child is unusually sleepy, confused, or difficult to wake
- There is trouble breathing, a stiff neck, or a concerning rash
- Your child shows signs of dehydration
Comfort Measures at Home
- Offer frequent fluids
- Dress your child in comfortable, light clothing
- Encourage rest
- Use fever medicine only as directed for the child's age and weight
For non-emergency childhood illnesses, All Med Urgent Care offers walk-in evaluation when your child's regular provider is unavailable.
